It is not very known that Costa Rica has a rich indigenous culture which produces great ceramic works including traditional Chorotega pottery. However, as the country progresses, there is a significant decline in the old culture's presence. There is one family in the Nicoya Peninsula that strives to preserve this rapidly declining art of pottery making. The family's works can be found in the University of Las Veritas. When cultural heritage is within reach, it becomes really frustrating once you find out that you are hindered by something petty--like a 500-dollar bill.Bound by the constitution, the local government of Costa Rica could not hire an official translator to handle a Letter Rogatory which will be sent to Germany, where more than 400 pieces of pre-Columbian Costa Rican art are stored. It just so happens that the translators authorized by the German government charge 500 dollars, more than double of what Costa Rican law permits.
